The $75,000 Century Mile Handicap goes to SUNBIRD and Antonio Reyes, marking the first stakes victory for trainer Geovani Olalde! The six year old gelding by Orb out of Marketway was bred in Kentucky by Glen Todd and is owned by John Felicella. Congratulations to all involved!

It’s a milestone kind of night! Congratulations to jockey Kyle Carter on achieving 200 North American wins in the fourth race aboard Silent Count for Rob VanOverschot and owners S S Stables. The five year old gelding by Audible was bred in Kentucky by Springhouse Farm, Drumkenny Farm, AdrianRegan & Hunter Valley Farm. Congratulations!

🏆 800 WINS 🏆 Congratulations to trainer Rick Hedge on achieving his 800th career training win with none other than BIG HUG! This marks Big Hug’s 18th career win in 34 starts, and her 14th stakes win, all with Rick. The six year old mare by Mr Big, out of Temeeku was bred by Chalet Stable and is owned by Empire Equestrian and Kerredge Farm and was ridden by Rafael Zenteno Jr. What an incredible accomplishment and a special team. Congratulations to all! A special thank you to Randy Watt for making the trophy presentation on behalf of Red Smith. The trophy was sponsored by Leduc Trophies, and two additional trophies were donated by Red to the jockey and trainer.

It's a busy week for Western Canada stakes! The RK Red Smith Handicap and the Century Mile Handicap will be run this evening on our rescheduled card, with first post at 6:45pm. We would also like to wish the best of luck to our Alberta connections in Manitoba this week. This evening is the RJ Speers and Derby Trial stakes at Assiniboia Downs. Century Mile jockey Kimal Santo makes the trip out to ride Robertino Diodoro trainee TRULY UNBELIEVABLE in the Derby Trial, while Rob VanOverschot trainee UNCHARACTERISTIC runs in the undercard with Jose Asencio aboard. Tim Rycroft's WHAT A FORCE returns to ASD after a win in the Chantilly Stakes just a couple of weeks ago for the Jack Hardy Stakes on Tuesday. The Canada Stakes draws out another VanOverschot entry in BLING DANCER who will be ridden by Asencio, while Santo will be aboard DONTGIVEUPTHEFIGHT for Diodoro. The Canada Stakes will also include last years Century Casino Oaks winner WELCOMETOHOLLYWOOD. VanOverschot's BORDER SONG also returns to Winnipeg after an appearance in the 2025 Manitoba Derby on the Tuesday undercard. Wednesday will feature the Hazel Wright Sire Stakes before we return with the next Derby/Oaks preps, the Sonoma and Count Lathum Stakes, at Century Mile on Saturday, July 18!
