Alberta Tribal Gaming

In January 2001, the Alberta government approved the First Nations Gaming Policy, which lays out the terms and conditions for any First Nation on-reserve gaming operation.

The first of Alberta's tribal casinos, the River Cree Resort and Casino, opened in October 2006.

In August 2008, after the smoking ban took effect in Alberta, both the Tsuu T'ina Nation and the Stoney Nakoda Nation invoked a federal bylaw exemption for native lands to avoid it.

Tribal gaming revenue is not available.
