British Columbia Lotteries
In 1969, an amendment was made to the Criminal Code that allowed provinces to conduct "lottery schemes." Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia banded together to form lotteries in Western Canada under the jurisdiction of the Western Canada Lottery Foundation. The first lottery sale in British Columbia was in August 1974.
In 1985, British Columbia began its own separate lottery, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC). The lottery offers an array of games, an online sports lottery and limited online sports betting. Sports betting is limited to parlay bets.
In 2011, the BCLC began offering peer-to-peer online poker in partnership with Loto-Québec.
