New Brunswick Charitable Gaming

Eligible charitable and religious organizations are able to obtain a licence to conduct events such as bingos, bingo event breakopen ticket sales, raffles, breakopen ticket sales, Monte Carlo events and Texas Hold 'em Poker tournaments. Proceeds from charitable gaming must be used for the relief of poverty, education, advancement of religion or a purpose benificial to the community. The Gaming, Liquor and Security Licensing Branch, (Department of Justice and Public Safety) is responsible for the regulation, control and licensing of charitable gaming in the Province.

Nonprofit groups in New Brunswick had been trying to get the province to legalize charitable poker tournaments since 2005 and were finally successful in 2008. Charitable lottery schemes where the total value of the prizes will be under CAD 500 may apply for a permit.
