Ontario Charitable Gaming

Charitable gaming in Ontario consists of charitable casinos, bingo, electronic bingo, break-open tickets, raffles and social gaming events conducted by charities and nonprofit organizations to raise funds. The AGCO is responsible for regulating and overseeing licensed lottery events (such as bingo, raffles and the sale of break-open tickets) conducted by eligible charitable and religious organizations to raise funds to support charitable purposes.

In July 2010, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) made regulatory and policy changes to assist the growing break-open ticket market. The AGCO intends to provide more flexibility to licensees in establishments who conduct the sale of break-open ticket lotteries. Under this policy, licensees may sell both types of break-open tickets under one license instead of needing to apply for two separate licenses. The new policy also extends the length of the license from one year to five years.

Although not operated for profit, Casino City considers gaming activities conducted at charitable casinos to be casino and card room gaming activities.
