Ontario Lotteries
In June 2007, the Ontario government established new regulations to protect consumers and build up the integrity of the lottery system. Some of the new rules included a retailer registration program with background checks, enforced rules of conduct for retailers, the use of inspectors to test the system, and a process to deal with disputed prize claims.
In 2010, the government announced plans to modernize the Ontario Lottery Corporation. The plan consisted of handing more oversight to OLG, creating more gambling opportunities (online gambling) and expanding the number of land-based locations. In spring 2012, OLG released a report outlining a roadmap of how it plans to implement these changes and began rolling out new products, starting with online gambling services.
