Quebec Lotteries

In 1969, the Criminal Code of Canada was amended to allow provinces to operate lotteries. Québec's lottery commission, Loto-Québec, was formed in the same year, primarily to allow the province to oversee the activities surrounding games of chance and to lessen organized crime's control of these activities. All profits are returned to the public in the form of services provided by the government.

In July 2010, the provincial government authorized the Société des loteries du Québec (a subsidiary of Loto-Québec) to offer online gaming.

In August 2012, Loto-Québec launched its online sports betting site and its mobile application.

Loto-Québec currently offers both traditional draw and instant games at about 8,600 locations, as well as online and mobile lottery and sports betting products.

In March 2019, Loto-Québec announced that Alice POS, a cloud retail point-of-sale solution, was implemented in 113 lottery kiosks across Québec.

Although regulated by the Société des loteries video du Québec, Casino City considers VLTs to be a casino and card room gaming activity.
