Quebec Race Wagering
Between 2009 and 2010, the four racetracks in Québec were closed because their owner, Attractions Hippiques, went bankrupt and was forced to cease operations.
Horse racing is regulated by the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux, while the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency regulates and supervises pari-mutuel betting on horse racing at racetracks across Canada.
Fans of harness racing can watch and wager on more than 150 racetracks worldwide thanks to an agreement between Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) and Le Club Jockey du Québec (CJQ). As a result of the agreement, HorsePlayer Interactive (horseplayerinteractive.com) became Canada's first and only legal pari-mutuel account wagering service. The deal includes Le Club Jockey du Québec's full participation in the HorsePlayer Interactive Rewards program, which offers cash back to players on a weekly basis. Le Club Jockey du Québec also decreased its Québec takeouts from 30% to 20%, which returns more money to bettors.
